Roger Warren, Chairman of the Cleveland County Republican Party announced today that the County Party will host a debate between Sheriff candidates Mark Hamm and Joe Lester. Also, a debate between SD 45 candidates Col. Steve Russell and Kyle Loveless. The location and date is still being finalized. Roger stated that the debate will also be a fundraiser for the County Party. Roger will be the moderator. Candidates will be given the format prior to the debate. The Okla City Community College will not allow fund raising. The next best location is the Moore Library. Roger is trying for August 21st or the 22nd as the debate date.
Time will be 7:00 PM -9:00 PM.

A photo of Norman Police Chief Phil Cotten was used without his authorization in a campaign mailing by sheriff candidate Joe Lester.
The advertisement from the Joe Lester for Sheriff campaign was mailed recently to a large number of homes in Cleveland County, according to a press release by Police Capt. Leonard Judy. The advertisement included endorsements from several individuals, including Cotten.
While the statement of endorsement was issued and authorized by Cotten as a citizen, the use of a photo of him in the Norman Police uniform and listing his title as the Norman police chief was not authorized.
Lester’s campaign was advised of the situation and has acknowledged the oversight, according to the release.
Bench warrant released after sheriff's candidate pays old ticket

A candidate for Cleveland County sheriff had an outstanding arrest warrant on a traffic ticket and could have been arrested by Oklahoma County Sheriff's officials, The American has learned.
Court records show that Mark Hamm, 41, of Moore, had a two-year-old bench warrant for an unpaid traffic violation.
Hamm's warrant stemmed from a 2003 traffic accident. In that accident, records show, police officials ticketed Hamm for following too closely.
Last Thursday afternoon, Hamm said he paid the four-year-old citation and cleared the warrant.
"Back in 2003, I had a fender bender and got a ticket," Hamm said. "I forgot about the ticket and wasn't aware of the bench warrant."
After he received a telephone call about the warrant, Hamm said he contacted the Oklahoma County court clerk's office and paid the fine, releasing the warrant.
"Honestly, I didn't know what was going on," he said. "The minute I found out about it (the fine), I went down and paid it."
Last Friday, officials with the Oklahoma County clerk's office confirmed Hamm's payment of $203. Hamm made the payment around 3 p.m. Thursday, they said.
Originally, Hamm's case was set for trial in Oklahoma County in December 2003, but court documents show Hamm failed to appear and the bench warrant for his arrest was issued April 13, 2006.
Hamm could have been arrested in Oklahoma County if he had been pulled over for any other traffic matter.
Hamm earned a spot in the Aug. 26 Republican primary election for Cleveland County Sheriff, by capturing 5,130 votes. In that election, Hamm faces fellow Republican Joe Lester, from Norman.
The winner will face Democrat Rick Adkins in the Nov. 4 general election.
